Brick Memorial
The McComb City Railroad Depot Museum Brick Memorial, located between the Depot and the train display, required much careful thought and planning prior to its inception. The staff and Board of Directors of the Museum had searched for a fitting way to honor the railroad men and women in McComb and the businesses from the vicinity that supported the railroad in so many ways, and together witnessed and contributed to the growth of our city and county. Once the basic concept was developed, drawings made and suppliers located, the question remained of what company would actually build the memorial. The Railroad Retirees stepped forward and undertook the awesome task of constructing the monument. From start to finish, the project was finished in relatively short order, once the engraved brick were delivered -- it required more time to inventory and proof-read each brick than it actually required to lay the bricks in the current pattern on the monument.
Honor Your Friends & Family With a Brick
Since many of those who are represented on the memorial are no longer with us, what better way could there be to honor the time they were with us than to place a brick in their memory in this beautiful memorial to their service? Brick orders will continue to be taken in the future, and if you have not remembered your family members or business associates who were here for the needs of these men and women, you can still do so. You may either contact a member of the Museum staff or click on the Brick Order Form link. If you require assistance placing your order we will gladly assist you. By clicking on the link you can print out an order form and return it along with your check made payable to the McComb City Railroad Museum in the amount of $50 (small engraved brick) or $100 (large engraved brick) see order form for details. This is a fitting tribute and a monument that will last forever. There is a brick locator on site to assist visitors in locating the bricks of friends and loved ones.
The following volunteers provided labor, determination and zeal in laying the brick for the memorial. Their names and the number of days they worked are listed below. They gave their time and effort so that the brick memorial would become a reality. We are indebted to all of those who helped us provide this memorial as a lasting memento of the Illinois Central Railroad and what it has meant to the history of the City of McComb.
